The Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Atlanta Hawks in an embarrassing game on home court by a score of 121-110. The Timberwolves have lost three games in a row and find themselves two games behind .500.
Things have to change and fast to stop this streak from continuing.
Consistency will be the devil or the angel of this team. They lost six in a row, then won five in a row, and are currently on a three-game losing streak.
BADER'S TAKE
Have to be better, plain and simple.
The last two losses for Minnesota were against strong playoff teams (Wizards and Nets) on the road as well, and the Wolves went into both those games and battled. They gave them a chance to win.
They did not do that tonight against a team that is more or less worse than the Wolves. The Hawks were coming into the game on the second night of a back-to-back after they lost to the Hornets the night before and were sitting right at .500 in the East.
That should have been a plus for the Wolves. However, it was the Timberwolves who looked like they were on the second night of a back-to-back.
They were missing D'Angelo Russel (DLO) and Patrick Beverly and have been missing guys over the losing streak, but the depth has to step up. They need to get help from the role-playing guys. They need the leaders like Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards to step up when DLO is out.
They need to turn around quickly and make sure that they do not repeat this performance on Wednesday when the talented smooth Utah Jazz come to town.
They need the win to avoid a four-game losing streak, and to get back on track.
Game Recap:
The Hawks came out hot and made nine three-pointers in the first quarter.
The Timberwolves kept the game close early, but it got away from them as they let the score freely.
At the end of the first quarter the Timberwolves were trailing by nine, 33-24 Hawks.
The Timberwolves did a better job of limiting the Hawks' three-pointers in the second quarter. However, they still found themselves trailing by 14 late in the second quarter.
Patrick Beverly, who did not play tonight due to injury, took a technical foul on the bench to make things worse for the Wolves.
The Hawks went into the third quarter with the lead, 61-48.
Things only continued to get worse for the Wolves.
The Timberwolves went into the fourth and final quarter trailing by a lot, 96-78 Hawks.
The Wolves showed some fight in the fourth quarter off of the strong effort from Malik Beasley who was trying to will the Wolves to the win.
The Timberwolves' efforts were too little, too late.
If they had battled as they did in the fourth quarter the whole game, well who knows maybe they would've won, maybe not.
The Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Atlanta Hawks, 121-110.
